Privacy Policy

Any question about your personal information can be sent to our Privacy Officer at info@boatsly.ca.

Account information: display name, email address, password (hashed, never visible to us), and phone number where provided.

Listing information: boat specifications, photos, price, approximate location (city and region), and hull identification number (HIN) — the latter is never displayed publicly.

Merchant information: business name, NEQ, GST/QST numbers when you apply for a merchant account.

Transaction information: offers, conversations, completed sales and the related commissions.

Technical information: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed — for security and service improvement.

To create and secure your account, and to authenticate you.

To publish your listings after review, and let buyers reach you.

To calculate and collect commission on completed sales.

To prevent fraud, fraudulent listings and attempts to bypass the platform.

To send you account-related notices (listing approved, offer received, etc.).

To meet our legal and tax obligations.

Other members: only what you publish (your listing, your display name) and the messages you send. Your email address and phone number are never disclosed automatically.

Service providers acting on our behalf: hosting and database (Vercel, Supabase), payment processing (Stripe). They use your information solely to provide their service to us.

Authorities: where required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our members.

We never sell your personal information.

Some of our providers (notably Stripe and Vercel) may process information outside Quebec, including in the United States. We select providers offering comparable protection and govern these transfers contractually.

We keep your information while your account is active, then for as long as needed to meet our legal, accounting and tax obligations — in particular transaction and commission history.

Deleted listings and their photos are removed from our active systems.

Access: obtain a copy of the information we hold about you.

Correction: fix inaccurate or incomplete information.

Deletion: request erasure of your information, subject to our legal retention obligations.

Portability: receive your information in a structured, commonly used technological format.

Withdrawal of consent: in particular for non-essential communications.

Exchanges with Boatsly are encrypted (TLS). Passwords are stored as irreversible hashes. Payment data is handled by Stripe: Boatsly never stores your card numbers.

Access to personal information is restricted to those who need it, and every administrative action is logged.

We measure site traffic (pages viewed, referrer, load times) with Vercel Analytics, hosted by our cloud provider. This measurement sets no cookie and uses no identifier that would let us recognise you from one visit to the next.

The data collected is aggregated: it tells us which listings interest buyers and which pages are too slow. It is neither sold nor shared for advertising purposes.

We use cookies that are essential to the site, notably to keep your session open and remember your language. They are not used to profile you for advertising.

We may amend this policy. For material changes, we will notify you by email or through a visible notice on the site.
